Short answer: the Ultimate Ears Boom 4, if you are buying new. The Xiaomi Mi Portable ranks higher than it (#75 vs #110 of 164 medium speakers, 3.4/5 vs 2.9/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the Ultimate Ears Boom 4 is still sold new at $149.99.
The Xiaomi Mi Portable is the better-sounding, lighter option. Good battery life for a 16W speaker: around 12 hours at moderate volume. At 0.8 lbs (373 g) it weighs much less than the Ultimate Ears Boom 4 at 1.4 lbs (620 g). It keeps a wired aux input, which the Ultimate Ears Boom 4 lacks. The tradeoff: A bit of a sharp treble.
What the Ultimate Ears Boom 4 does well: IP67 rated, floats, and finally charges via USB-C instead of the older Booms’ Micro-USB. Watch for: Not much improvement over the old ones.
Buy the Ultimate Ears Boom 4 new; the Xiaomi Mi Portable is no longer sold new, so it only makes sense as a used find.
