Short answer: the Sony ULT Field 1, if you are buying new. The Xiaomi Mi Portable ranks higher than it (#75 vs #97 of 164 medium speakers, 3.4/5 vs 3.1/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the Sony ULT Field 1 is still sold new at $138.
The Xiaomi Mi Portable is the lighter choice. Good battery life for a 16W speaker: around 12 hours at moderate volume. At 0.8 lbs (373 g) it weighs much less than the Sony ULT Field 1 at 1.4 lbs (650 g). It keeps a wired aux input, which the Sony ULT Field 1 lacks. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Sony ULT Field 1. Watch for: A bit of a sharp treble.
What the Sony ULT Field 1 does well: IP67 rated, survives drops and 1m submersion. It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Xiaomi Mi Portable lacks. The tradeoff: Upper midrange peak, rolled off treble.
Buy the Sony ULT Field 1 new; the Xiaomi Mi Portable is no longer sold new, so it only makes sense as a used find.
