Short answer: the D8, it costs less and sounds better. The D8 ranks #43 and the D9 ranks #66 out of 78 large portable speakers, with the D8 priced $1.25 less.
The D9’s spec sheet reads like the stronger speaker, but the sound doesn’t back it up. It offers more rated output at 60W RMS versus the D8’s 50W RMS, a higher 106dB max volume against 101dB, and a genuinely impressive 40-hour battery life versus the D8’s 24 hours. Despite all that, its own review flags very rolled off treble as the defining sonic flaw, dragging it well below the D8 in overall ranking. The D8 isn’t flawless either, its review notes slightly recessed mids and distortion at high volumes, but its overall balance still comes out ahead, described simply as decent sounding.
What the D9 adds: MicroSD playback and Bluetooth 5.3, versus an unspecified Bluetooth version on the D8, along with an EQ button for basic tone adjustment that the D8 lacks.
What the D8 adds: a tougher IPX7 rating versus the D9’s IPX6, dual tweeters alongside its woofers for a proper two-way driver layout versus the D9’s simpler dual 40mm full-range drivers, and a lower price on top of the better sound.
Buy the D8 for better overall sound quality and a lower price. There isn’t much of a case against it here.
Buy the D9 only if the much longer battery life and MicroSD playback matter more to you than the treble rolloff and higher price.
If sound quality matters at all to you, skip the W-King D9. It ranks near the bottom of the 78 large speakers, so look higher up the list instead.
