Short answer: the Soundcore Rave+, though neither ranks well in its class. It ranks #37 of 43 party speakers by sound quality, rated 2.4/5, at $240. The Altec Lansing AL500 ranks #42, rated 2.1/5, at $200, $40 cheaper, not enough of a saving to outweigh the sound-quality gap. Both are rated below 3.0/5 among the 43 party speakers; for better sound, the JBL Partybox 110 ranks #9 at $299.95.
What the Soundcore Rave+ does well: Excellent sound quality praised by customers with clarity, definition, and bass response. Watch for: Pretty big lack of deep bass.
What the Altec Lansing AL500 does well: Dual 8-inch subwoofers with full-range 3” horn tweeter for wide dispersion. The tradeoff: Not very deep bass.
One note: the Soundcore Rave+ is no longer in production and isn’t widely stocked new anymore.
Buy the Soundcore Rave+. It is rated higher for sound quality, and saving $40 with the Altec Lansing AL500 does not make up for the sound-quality gap.
