The Soundcore Boom 3i is the better-sounding option. Looks to be designed as a direct competitor to the JBL Charge 5 with a very similar sound profile, warm tuned with boosted bass. The tradeoff: Not quite as good as a JBL Charge 5, doesn’t go quite as loud or sound quite as balanced, but very very close.
The Tribit Stormbox 2 is the longer-running, lighter choice. A little better sounding than the original Tribit Stormbox, less of a rolled off treble. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 16 for the Soundcore Boom 3i. At 1.3 lbs (593 g) it weighs noticeably less than the Soundcore Boom 3i at 1.7 lbs (783 g). It keeps a wired aux input, which the Soundcore Boom 3i lacks. The tradeoff: Drivers on the side, so it will have a rolled off treble listening to it face on.
Buy the Soundcore Boom 3i. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $49 saving on the Tribit Stormbox 2 is not enough to make up the difference.
