Both trade clarity for size and bass. The S95’s cons describe a rolled-off top end and clarity that isn’t as good as better speakers; the Boom 2 Plus’s cons describe a warm, rolled-off treble of its own with some upper bass boost. Neither is the class’s tonal reference point.
The Boom 2 Plus has real upside once tuned. Our own notes flag it as quite a bit lighter than most of the class and likely to move up in the rankings once a proper EQ correction lands, which the S95 doesn’t have a similar note about.
Buy the S95 for the lower price and slightly higher current ranking. Buy the Boom 2 Plus if you’re willing to wait on an EQ tune and want the lighter cabinet.
