Short answer: the Soundcore Motion X600, with one caveat. It ranks #41 of 78 large speakers against #19 for the Sony ULT Field 5, and it costs $48 less. The catch is that its ranking leans on a firmware update and an EQ tweak most owners have to seek out.
The Motion X600’s sound quality is a moving target, in a good way. Our notes say firmware 4.2.9 marked a big improvement over previous releases, and recommend a Patreon EQ from Oluv for the best result. Without that EQ, the stock tuning is wavy, with a dip in the upper bass around 120Hz and treble that runs a little hot, and our notes estimate it would rank closer to #20 in its class without the correction. Even EQed, the bass isn’t very deep and the sound stays a little unnatural.
The Sony ULT Field 5 doesn’t have a comparable EQ story, it’s just a middling-sounding speaker. Our notes describe its bass as not as deep as others in its category and call the sound quality overall just okay. Where it does lead is durability and battery: IP67 dust and water resistance against IPX7 for the Motion X600, and 25 hours of battery life against 12 hours for the Motion X600.
The Sony also has the more capable app and codec support: a 10-band EQ plus a dedicated ULT bass button, and AAC codec support where the Motion X600 is LDAC and SBC only. The Motion X600 counters with more raw output on paper, 50W against 27W, and an upward-firing driver for a spatial audio mode.
Buy the Soundcore Motion X600 if you’re willing to update its firmware and consider a community EQ preset for meaningfully better sound at a lower price.
Buy the Sony ULT Field 5 if you want stronger water resistance, longer battery life, and better codec support, and don’t mind accepting a speaker our notes call just okay for sound quality out of the box.

Reviews find it energetic and dynamic with substantial bass, enough volume for a yard, and two ULT modes that let bass-focused listeners choose a deeper or punchier presentation.
Cons: It prioritizes bass and loudness over fidelity: reviews find the upper mids and highs subdued, with limited stereo separation and soundstage depth. Deep bass is less authoritative than the enclosure suggests, and the loud confirmation tone when pressing the ULT button is an unnecessary annoyance. Use the app EQ and audition it before buying for detail-focused music.

Pros: Firmware 4.2.9 is a big improvement in sound quality over previous releases. Try this Oluv EQ for the best sound quality. Measured bass extension of 52Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Stock frequency response is wavy. Use spatial mode for best sound quality. Need a different EQ for each volume step. Dip in the upper bass around 120Hz. Rising frequency response, treble a little hot. Would be ranked around #20 without the Oluv EQ. Even with the Oluv EQ the bass isn’t very deep and the sound is still a little unnatural.
