Short answer: the Sony ULT Field 3 if sound quality matters most, the Walla Sound if price matters most. The Sony ULT Field 3 ranks #71 of 177 medium speakers, rated 3.4/5, at $208. The Walla Sound ranks #163, rated 2.2/5, at $49.99, $158.01 cheaper.
The Sony ULT Field 3 is the better-sounding, longer-running pick. A rugged waterproof stereo speaker with long battery life, a detailed app EQ, a shoulder strap and a phone charging port. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 8 for the Walla Sound. It is rated IP67 against IPX5 for the Walla Sound. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Walla Sound lacks. The tradeoff: Sounds a bit hollow, a bit boosted in the treble.
The Walla Sound is the lighter choice. A small shockproof speaker with an aux input, microSD playback and a built in microphone. At 0.7 lbs (300 g) it weighs much less than the Sony ULT Field 3 at 2.6 lbs (1.2 kg). It keeps a wired aux input, which the Sony ULT Field 3 lacks. The catch: No bass, gets distorted when turned up.
Buy the Sony ULT Field 3 if sound quality is the priority over the price, or the Walla Sound if the price is the priority over sound quality.
