Sony ULT Field 3 vs EFM Toledo

Last updated: October 5, 2026

Short answer: the Sony ULT Field 3. It ranks #74 of 164 medium speakers by sound quality (rated 3.4/5) at $208 and is still sold new; the EFM Toledo ranks #152 (rated 2.2/5) and is discontinued, so it is only an option used.

Sony ULT Field 3 vs EFM Toledo

The Sony ULT Field 3 is the better-sounding, longer-running pick. IP67 rated, dustproof and water resistant. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 15 for the EFM Toledo. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the EFM Toledo. It charges over USB-C rather than Micro USB. Watch for: Sounds a bit hollow, a bit boosted in the treble.

The EFM Toledo is the lighter option. A compact 1.1 lbs (500 g) speaker with dual drivers, IPX6 protection, speakerphone capability, TWS pairing and a claimed 15-hour battery life. At 1.1 lbs (500 g) it weighs much less than the Sony ULT Field 3 at 2.6 lbs (1.2 kg). The tradeoff: With only 10W output, bass is very limited and treble rolls off early, so music lacks the weight, detail and headroom of stronger portable speakers.

Buy the Sony ULT Field 3. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the EFM Toledo is discontinued, so it is only available used.

Older models: the Sony XB33 (ranked lower, rated 3.4/5), the Sony SRS-XE300 (ranked lower, rated 2.8/5) and the Sony SRS-XB30 (ranked lower, rated 2.6/5).

Pros: IP67 rated, dustproof and water resistant. 24 hour battery life. App with 10-band EQ. Party Connect with up to 100 speakers. USB-C in/out for charging your phone.

Cons: Sounds a bit hollow, a bit boosted in the treble. Custom EQ and the ULT bass-boost button can’t be used together: turning on ULT disables the EQ. Bass is very weak with ULT off. Lost to the JBL Charge 6 in a side-by-side comparison despite being the larger speaker.

EFM Toledo ranking card

Pros: A compact 500g speaker with dual drivers, IPX6 protection, speakerphone capability, TWS pairing and a claimed 15-hour battery life. Its simple, rugged format makes it easy to carry for podcasts, background music and casual use around water.

Cons: With only 10W output, bass is very limited and treble rolls off early, so music lacks the weight, detail and headroom of stronger portable speakers. It has no aux input, app or EQ, and this discontinued model is best considered only if its compact weather-resistant design is the priority.
