Short answer: the Beats Pill 2024. It ranks #78 of 177 medium speakers by sound quality, rated 3.3/5, at $99.95; the Sony ULT Field 1 ranks #99, rated 3.1/5, and costs $108, which makes this an easy call rather than a real tradeoff.
The Pill is the more balanced speaker for less. It claims 24 hours of battery, quick-charges 2 hours in 10 minutes, charges a phone over USB-C, supports AAC and stereo-pairs with a second Pill. Its upper bass is thuddy, its mids slightly recessed and its treble rolled off.
The ULT Field 1 is tougher and lasts longer in practice. It survives drops and 1m submersion, owners see about 28 hours with the ULT bass mode off, and it has an app EQ and Party Connect. Its separate tweeter is let down by an upper-midrange peak and rolled-off treble.
Buy the Beats Pill 2024. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Sony ULT Field 1 and costs less, so only choose the other one for a particular feature it does better.
Battery life favors the Beats Pill 2024: rated for 24 hours against 12 hours for the Sony ULT Field 1.
