Short answer: both are discontinued, so this only matters if you are buying used. Used, the Sony SRS-XP500 is the better pick: it ranks #15 of 44 party speakers by sound quality (rated 4.0/5), against #30 (rated 3.1/5) for the Soundboks Go. If you want one new, the Sony ULT Tower 7 ranks #1 at $648.
The Sony SRS-XP500 is the better-sounding, deeper-bass option. 20W 3-way speaker system with dual passive radiators, well-balanced sound (clear highs, detailed mids, punchy bass). Its bass reaches about 42Hz before falling 10dB, against 55Hz for the Soundboks Go. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Soundboks Go lacks. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Soundboks Go lacks. The tradeoff: Not as loud and bass not as deep as a JBL Partybox 100 or JBL Partybox 110.
The Soundboks Go is the longer-running option. Exceptional 40-hour battery life at mid-volume (10 hours at full volume), swappable design (second battery $200 available). It is rated for 40 hours of battery against 20 for the Sony SRS-XP500. The catch: Not as loud as the other Soundboks.
Buy the Sony SRS-XP500 only if you find one used in good condition; both are discontinued, and it is the better rated of the two. For a new speaker, start with the Sony ULT Tower 7 instead.
