The SRS-XE300 has a genuine bass shortfall. Our notes describe it as muffled sounding with not very deep bass, calling it hollow sounding and worse than Sony’s own older XB43. It does add orientation-aware playback that switches to true stereo when laid flat, and fast charging that gets roughly 70 minutes of playback from a 10-minute charge.
The ULT Field 3 sounds thin without its dedicated bass mode engaged. Our notes say it sounds a bit hollow and boosted in the treble, and bass is very weak with the ULT button off, though that button and the custom app EQ can’t be used together, since turning on ULT disables the EQ. Despite carrying a 10-band app EQ, our notes note it lost to the JBL Charge 6 in a side-by-side comparison despite being the larger speaker.
Output power favors the ULT Field 3: 27W against the SRS-XE300’s 16W, and its power bank output can charge your phone, a feature the SRS-XE300 lacks.
Everything else matches closely: both are IP67 rated, run a 24 hour battery, support LDAC and AAC Bluetooth codecs, and offer Sony Party Connect for linking up to 100 speakers.
Buy the Sony ULT Field 3 if you’re comfortable using its dedicated bass button for real low end and want more output power for a modest premium.
Buy the Sony SRS-XE300 if the lower price matters most and you can live with weaker, muffled bass either way.
