The Sony SRS-XE300 ranks higher than the Sony SRS-XE200 (#118 vs #143 of 175 medium speakers) but is discontinued; its replacement, the Sony ULT Field 3, is rated 3.4/5 at $208 and is still sold new. Both are rated below 3.0/5 among the 175 medium speakers; for better sound, the EarFun Uboom L ranks #2 at $49.79.
The Sony SRS-XE300 is the longer-running pick. Orientation-aware playback switches to stereo when laid flat. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 16 for the Sony SRS-XE200. The tradeoff: Muffled sounding, not very deep bass.
The Sony SRS-XE200 is the lighter pick. IP67 rated with dedicated per-function buttons. At 1.8 lbs (800 g) it weighs much less than the Sony SRS-XE300 at 2.9 lbs (1.3 kg). The tradeoff: Sounds hollow.
Buy the Sony ULT Field 3, the replacement for the discontinued Sony SRS-XE300; it is rated higher for sound quality than the Sony SRS-XE200.
