Short answer: the Onn Small Rugged Speaker. It ranks #35 of 62 small speakers by sound quality, rated 3.1/5, at $14.88; the Sony SRS-XB100 ranks #43, rated 2.9/5, and costs $34.91, so there is little reason to consider the other one.
The Sony SRS-XB100 is the longer-running option. A pocketable waterproof speaker with a long real world battery, a clip for bags, and stereo pairing. It is rated for 16 hours of battery against 10 for the Onn Small Rugged Speaker. It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Onn Small Rugged Speaker lacks. The tradeoff: Not much bass.
What the Onn Small Rugged Speaker does well: A very cheap, tough waterproof mini speaker with USB-C charging, an aux input, and a speakerphone mic. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Sony SRS-XB100 lacks. It links with other speakers (Party Sync Mode), which the Sony SRS-XB100 cannot. The tradeoff: Its 1.5-inch driver cannot create meaningful deep bass (about 66Hz at -10dB) or the clarity and scale of better small speakers.
Buy the Onn Small Rugged Speaker. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Sony SRS-XB100 and costs less, so only choose the other one for a particular feature it does better.
