Short answer: the Sony INZONE H6 Air. It ranks #211 of 481 over-ear headphones by sound quality, rated 3.7/5, at $198; the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro X Limited Edition ranks #227, rated 3.6/5, and costs $229.99, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.
Why pick the Sony INZONE H6 Air: A light 0.4 lbs (199 g) open back gaming headset with a built-in microphone that runs easily from a controller or PC at 28 ohms and 99 dB/mW. Watch for: Bass and low mids run 2.6 to 4.3 dB heavy, thickening voices, while a 7.6 dB peak near 8.4 kHz next to a 6 dB dip near 9.7 kHz gives cymbals an uneven, edgy texture.
What the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro X Limited Edition does well: Oratory1990’s measurement gives it a preference score of 72, and sub-bass is lifted about 4 dB with a boost of 5 dB at 30 Hz, so electronic and hip hop tracks hit with real rumble. Watch for: An 8.5 dB peak near 6.4 kHz and treble about 4 dB high from 6 to 10 kHz can make sibilance and cymbals sound sharp, while a 5 dB dip near 3 kHz pulls vocals back.
Buy the Sony INZONE H6 Air. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro X Limited Edition and costs less, so only choose the other one for a particular feature it does better.
