The Sonos Move is the deeper-bass option. A Wi-Fi and Bluetooth portable with warm, full bodied sound, automatic room tuning and a charging base. Its bass reaches about 49Hz before falling 10dB, against 63Hz for the Sonos Roam 2. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Sonos Roam 2 lacks. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Sonos Roam 2. The catch: It is mono, heavy and less portable than a conventional Bluetooth speaker, while bass pumping and compression become audible at high volume.
The Sonos Roam 2 is the lighter option. A small Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speaker with water resistance, Alexa built in and Sonos multiroom support. At 0.9 lbs (429 g) it weighs much less than the Sonos Move at 6.6 lbs (3 kg). It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Sonos Move lacks. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Sonos Move lacks. The catch: Exact same sound quality as the original Sonos Roam.
One note: the Sonos Move is discontinued, but it still ranks #30 of 117 large speakers by sound quality, ahead of most of what is still sold new, so it is worth considering used. The Sonos Move’s replacement, the Sonos Move 2, is rated 4.1/5 at $480.
Buy the Sonos Move at $299.95 for a large speaker, or the Sonos Roam 2 at $178 for a medium speaker instead.
