Erin’s Audio Corner found the 5020’s tonal balance distinctly too crisp, forward, and treble-heavy. Its top end measures roughly 3 to 5dB elevated while the 1 to 3kHz region is recessed, so vocals change level unnaturally as they move through their range. The review notes he preferred the less expensive Q Acoustics 3020i’s linearity and did not recommend the 5020 for neutral listening without EQ. The Silver 50 7G isn’t measured as fully neutral either, its on-axis response trends upward toward the treble at a slope of +0.50dB per octave, the steepest Erin measured in that batch of speakers, but its listening-window smoothness score of 0.50 still earned it a Hi-Fi News Outstanding Product Award.
Bass behavior is a mixed picture. The 5020 reaches slightly deeper at -10dB, 48Hz against the Silver 50 7G’s 50.7Hz, but at -3dB the Silver 50 7G is tighter at 87.9Hz against the 5020’s 103Hz, and its HiVe II port is specifically tuned to 58Hz for real bass weight from a compact 5.25 inch driver. The 5020’s port carries a strong 1kHz resonance of its own, and Erin found it bottoms out the woofer when pushed hard, with distortion reaching about 3% by 100Hz at 96dB.
Buy the Monitor Audio Silver 50 7G. It ranks higher for sound quality than the Q Acoustics 5020 and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one unless the 5020’s cabinet finish and design specifically appeal to you over its measured tonal issues.

Pros: Attractively finished compact standmount with a 5-inch Continuous Curved Cone woofer and carefully engineered cabinet details. Erin found distortion well controlled at normal levels: below 1% down to about 50Hz at 86dB/1m. Its 87dB measured sensitivity is unremarkable rather than hard to drive, and it maintains acceptable output for typical 80-85dB listening. The rear port can be plugged for placement flexibility. Measured bass extension of 103Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 87.1dB.
