Short answer: the PSB SubSeries BP12. Both are rated 4.2/5 for sound quality (#74 and #81 of 143 subwoofers), and the PSB SubSeries BP12 costs $6,699 against $7,499.99 for the Paradigm Persona SUB, so with nothing between them on sound quality, price settles it.
Why pick the Paradigm Persona SUB: Six 8” woofers in a sealed hexagonal cabinet with a 1700W amplifier and Anthem Room Correction. The catch: No independent measurements yet, so its output can’t be compared with ranked subwoofers.
Why pick the PSB SubSeries BP12: PSB’s flagship subwoofer: two opposed 12” drivers in a sealed cabinet with a 1000W Purifi amplifier (2 x 500W), rated 20 to 150Hz (±3dB) and 17Hz at -10dB. The tradeoff: No independent measurements yet, so its output can’t be compared directly with ranked subwoofers; the rating is estimated from the measured PSB Speakers SubSeries 450 (122.1dB in the 40 to 80Hz CEA-2010 bands); two opposed 12” drivers in a sealed box with 1000W should come close to it.
Buy the PSB SubSeries BP12. Both are rated the same for sound quality, and it costs $800.99 less than the Paradigm Persona SUB.
About the ratings: neither speaker has been measured yet, so both ratings are estimated from measured siblings and predecessors (likely ranges: Paradigm Persona SUB 3.9 to 4.5; PSB SubSeries BP12 3.8 to 4.4). Treat this verdict as provisional.
