Short answer: the Brane X for better sound quality, the Onn Portable FM Boombox for the lower price. The Brane X ranks #4 of 115 large speakers, rated 4.6/5, at $549. The Onn Portable FM Boombox ranks #26, rated 4.2/5, at $74.83, $474.17 cheaper.
The Onn Portable FM Boombox is the longer-running, lighter pick. An excellent value waterproof boombox that floats, with reasonably deep bass, FM radio, lights and a long battery. It is rated for 16 hours of battery against 12 for the Brane X. At 4.9 lbs (2.22 kg) it weighs noticeably less than the Brane X at 7.7 lbs (3.5 kg). The catch: Reasonable frequency response, but not quite as smooth as some of the top-ranked speakers in this size.
The Brane X is the better-sounding pick. A portable speaker with extraordinarily deep bass for its size, plus Wi-Fi, AirPlay, Alexa and a low latency aux input. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Onn Portable FM Boombox lacks. The catch: The front-facing design has only moderate dispersion, so sound changes noticeably off to the sides or behind it.
Buy the Onn Portable FM Boombox when the price outweighs sound quality for you, and the Brane X when sound quality outweighs the price instead.
