Monitor Audio BRW10: $699 Discontinued eBay
Pros: Independent CEA-2010 testing records 70.1 dB at 20 Hz and 107.0 dB through 40-80 Hz. The ported, rear enclosure with 10” (254mm) driver delivers substantial upper-bass output for movie effects and music.
Cons: Deep-bass output is more limited than the strong 40-80 Hz result suggests, so it is not the right choice when the lowest movie effects are the priority. The 320.5H x 320.5W x 339.6D mm cabinet and 12.5 kg mass still require deliberate placement and calibration. Discontinued.

Older models: the SVS SB-2000 (ranked higher, rated 3.9/5) and the SVS SB12-Plus (ranked lower, rated 3.6/5).
Pros: A compact sealed 12-inch subwoofer, about 37cm on each side, with a 550W RMS (1,500W peak) Sledge amplifier and SVS’s smartphone app for volume, crossover, phase, room gain compensation and parametric EQ from the listening seat. Erin’s Audio Corner measured a 114.7dB CEA-2010-A average from 40 to 80Hz, and SVS rates it at 19-240Hz within 3dB.
Cons: Output is modest next to larger or ported subwoofers: Erin’s Audio Corner measured about 102.5dB at 20Hz, and he judged the SB-3000, about $200 more, the better value for its considerably higher output. Sealed designs this size run out of headroom sooner in large rooms.
