Short answer: the KEF Reference 1 Meta if sound quality matters most, the MoFi SourcePoint 8 if price matters most. The KEF Reference 1 Meta ranks #3 of 222 bookshelf speakers, rated 4.8/5, at $9,999.98. The MoFi SourcePoint 8 ranks #17, rated 4.5/5, at $2,594, $7,405.98 cheaper.
What the MoFi SourcePoint 8 does well: A bookshelf speaker with an 8 inch concentric driver, neutral sound, excellent imaging, and wide dispersion that forgives placement. The catch: Like other coincident designs, produces diffraction dips around 4kHz and 7kHz when pointed directly on-axis; needs about 10-15° of toe-out to smooth those out.
The KEF Reference 1 Meta is the more accurate option. Extremely accurate bookshelf speakers, with a superb three dimensional soundstage, no harshness, and tightly matched pairs. Its measured preference score, a predictor of how neutral it sounds, is 6.48 against 5.15 for the MoFi SourcePoint 8. The tradeoff: At roughly $10000/pair, nearly four times the cost of the similarly-sized KEF R3.
Buy the MoFi SourcePoint 8 if the price is the priority over sound quality, or the KEF Reference 1 Meta if sound quality is the priority over the price.
