The core fix in the II is tonal balance. The original Willen’s own review praises exceptionally clear vocals for a mono speaker but flags a bit of sharp treble as a real drawback. The Willen II’s review confirms it’s more balanced than the first Willen with no sharp treble, though its own cons note the tradeoff: midrange can sound a bit congested at volume, and max output remains fairly low compared to pricier speakers. Neither generation has deep bass, both share the same 2-inch driver with dual passive radiators and roughly the same -10dB extension around 70-75Hz.
The original Willen actually keeps one feature the II drops: Marshall Stack party mode for linking multiple Marshall speakers together, something the Willen II’s spec sheet doesn’t list. The Willen II does add a faster Bluetooth 5.3 connection versus 5.1, about two hours more battery life, and slightly longer runtime overall at 17 hours versus 15.
Everything else matches: both are IP67 rated, both charge over USB-C, both include an app with EQ, and neither has an aux input or true wireless stereo pairing.
Buy the Willen II for the corrected treble tuning and longer battery life, especially since it’s the current model still in production.
Buy the original Willen used only if you specifically want Marshall Stack pairing and can live with its sharper treble.
