Short answer: the HS5, and the measurements are the reason why. It ranks #41 of 65 powered bookshelf speakers at $399.98; the Classic 5 ranks #47 at $319.99, $79.99 less.
The Classic 5’s issues are specific and technical. Elevated, splashy highs above 4kHz from port and woofer resonance, a directivity error at the crossover, and distortion exceeding 100% below 50Hz. Our notes call it not recommended out of the box, though EQ correction can turn it into a capable monitor with real power on tap.
The HS5 is the industry’s default reference for a reason. Our notes call it excellent for mixing and anything needing a neutral output, with only a slight midrange boost and bass that doesn’t reach quite as deep as some rivals as its real complaints.
Buy the HS5 for the cleaner, more trusted reference sound. Buy the Classic 5 only if you’re prepared to EQ it and manage your listening position carefully, and want to save $79.99 doing it.

Pros: ASR’s Klippel data gives -3dB bass around 60Hz and a 5.18 preference score with an ideal subwoofer. Broad tonal correction can improve it, so it may be useful to someone willing to measure and EQ a basic studio setup. Measured bass extension of 60.1Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The native standalone score is 2.66 and the midrange span is a large 6.5dB. Excess treble and crossover/directivity errors keep it from being neutral out of the box, while low-bass distortion limits loud playback. Modeled EQ scores are not stock performance and do not demonstrate corrected distortion or dispersion.

Pros: ASR found reasonably smooth early-reflection directivity, which makes broad EQ correction more promising than on speakers whose off-axis response changes abruptly. Balanced inputs and placement controls suit studio use. The measured preference scores are 2.91 standalone and 5.52 with an ideal subwoofer. Measured bass extension of 88Hz (-3dB).
Cons: The measurements do not support describing it as very neutral: excess midrange and reduced lower-midrange/upper-bass weight produce a bass-light balance. The 300Hz-5kHz span is 4.3dB. Its automated -3dB crossing is affected by response shape, so it should not be treated as a simple bass-cutoff specification. A subwoofer adds low bass but does not fix the elevated midrange.
