Short answer: the KEF Q Concerto Meta for better sound quality, the HiVi Swans 3.1A Sehlin Sound Solutions mod for the lower price. The KEF Q Concerto Meta ranks #11 of 222 bookshelf speakers, rated 4.6/5, at $1,399.99. The HiVi Swans 3.1A Sehlin Sound Solutions mod ranks #97, rated 3.9/5, at $364.99, $1,035 cheaper.
The KEF Q Concerto Meta is the better-sounding, deeper-bass choice. A neutral three way bookshelf speaker that sounds consistent from seat to seat, with smooth treble that many rivals at its price lack. Its bass reaches about 53Hz before falling 3dB, against 60Hz for the HiVi Swans 3.1A Sehlin Sound Solutions mod. The tradeoff: Radiation pattern measures about ±50°, narrower than the reviewer’s preferred ±60° for a stronger sense of envelopment.
The case for the HiVi Swans 3.1A Sehlin Sound Solutions mod: An upgraded three-way DIY kit with smooth sound, wide dispersion and clean bass for a 6.5 inch woofer. Watch for: Some directivity error appears around 2.1kHz on-axis.
Buy the KEF Q Concerto Meta if sound quality is the priority over the price, or the HiVi Swans 3.1A Sehlin Sound Solutions mod if the price is the priority over sound quality.
