Short answer: these are both excellent and they are not really the same product. The Kali LP-UNF ranks #32 and the JBL 305P MkII ranks #13 in the same 65-speaker class, $349 against $319 a pair.
The LP-UNF is a three-way in a small cabinet, and it reaches 39 Hz. That is remarkable for a desktop-sized monitor and means it works as a full-range system without a subwoofer, which almost nothing else at this size does. It also has the more useful input set for a desk: Bluetooth, USB-C digital, RCA and TRS, so it connects to a laptop, a phone and a turntable without an interface.
The 305P MkII is the more conventional studio monitor. Balanced XLR and TRS only (no Bluetooth, no USB, no RCA) because it expects an audio interface in front of it. It has a long track record as a reference at this price, with JBL’s waveguide giving it notably consistent off-axis behaviour. Room adjustment switches on the back let you compensate for boundary placement. It is also lighter, 4.7 kg (10.4 lbs) each against 7.8 kg (17.2 lbs).
The practical split:
Buy the LP-UNF for a desk or a living room. The extra bass extension, the Bluetooth and the USB input make it a complete system on its own, and it is the better choice if this is your only pair of speakers.
Buy the 305P MkII if you are building a studio around an interface, want the waveguide’s directivity control, or plan to add a subwoofer anyway and would rather spend the difference there.

Erin’s Klippel data gives -3dB bass around 54Hz and scores of 3.68 standalone and 5.76 with an ideal subwoofer. The low crossover and waveguide provide useful freedom of listening height for a two-way design, and moderate-level distortion is well controlled in the review. Measured bass extension of 54Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 88.1dB.
Cons: The 2.9dB midrange span masks local response ripples; listening-window narrow-band deviation of 0.467 is behind the best monitors. The review finds limiting around 91dB/1m per speaker. No dedicated subwoofer output means integration requires suitable external routing or bass management. Its strength is affordable close listening, not top-tier tonal accuracy or high-output room playback.

Pros: Erin’s Klippel data gives 4.47 standalone and 6.61 with an ideal subwoofer, with bass reaching -3dB around 51Hz. Broad horizontal coverage and reasonably smooth reflected sound support stable imaging across a desk. The existing review reports effective limiting and little sustained thermal compression, making it a strong budget-monitor option rather than just a speaker with a promising frequency curve. Measured bass extension of 50Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 91.1dB.
Cons: The 3.3dB midrange span and rising response show it is not perfectly neutral. A port-related feature around 1.6kHz and some excess treble can be audible; the review recommends the treble-trim switch. Vertical crossover interference makes ear height important. Amplifier hiss may matter in very quiet nearfield use, and rear-port placement needs room-boundary adjustment.
