Short answer: the JBL Flip Essential 2, if you are buying new. The JBL Flip 5 measures as well as it (#66 vs #67 of 144 medium speakers, 3.3/5 vs 3.3/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the JBL Flip Essential 2 is still sold new at $85.90.
Nearly the same speaker. Both use a single 44 x 80mm racetrack driver with 20W, rated down to 65Hz, in an IPX7 body of about the same size. Expect very similar sound: boosted upper bass, and a sound that gets piercing when turned up.
What changed: the Flip Essential 2 has newer Bluetooth 5.1 with two phones connected at once, but a smaller battery with a claimed 10 hours against the Flip 5’s 12. It drops the app EQ and PartyBoost linking the Flip 5 has.
The Flip 5 is discontinued, so the Flip Essential 2 is the way to buy this driver new.
Buy the JBL Flip Essential 2 if you want one new; the JBL Flip 5 is discontinued, so only look for it used.

Pros: Compact and light (1.1 lb) with a carry lanyard. Charges via USB-C, topping off in about 2.5 hours. IP67 rated. Measured bass extension of 59Hz (-10dB).
Cons: Not stereo. Boosted upper bass. Piercing sound when turned up. Peaky lower treble at higher volumes. Discontinued.

Older model: the JBL Flip Essential (rated 3.2/5).
Pros: Essentially a Flip 5 in a new shell: the same single 44 x 80mm racetrack driver and 20W amplifier, rated down to 65Hz. In a side by side loudness test it got louder than the JBL Grip, and listeners comparing it with the Marshall Emberton found it more open sounding and clearer. IPX7 waterproof, 520 g, USB-C charging and Bluetooth 5.1 with two phones connected at once.
Cons: There is no tweeter, and side by side comparisons found it does not sound as good as the Flip 6, with less bass; its bass stops growing above about 70% volume, so turning it up mostly adds loudness, not weight. No app, no EQ, no PartyBoost or stereo pairing, a claimed 10 hours of battery, and IPX7 covers water but not dust.
