The JBL Charge 5 Wifi is the better-sounding, longer-running option. Sounds exactly the same as the non-Wifi version. It is rated for 20 hours of battery against 15 for the Ultimate Ears Boom 4. It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Ultimate Ears Boom 4 lacks. The catch: Shouty upper mids.
The Ultimate Ears Boom 4 is the lighter option. IP67 rated, floats, and finally charges via USB-C instead of the older Booms’ Micro-USB. At 1.4 lbs (620 g) it weighs much less than the JBL Charge 5 Wifi at 2.2 lbs (1 kg). It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the JBL Charge 5 Wifi. The tradeoff: Not much improvement over the old ones.
Buy the JBL Charge 5 Wifi. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $9.96 saving on the Ultimate Ears Boom 4 is not enough to make up the difference.
