The JBL Charge 5 is the better-sounding, deeper-bass pick. Doubles as a power bank (USB-A out) for charging your phone. Its bass reaches about 53Hz before falling 10dB, against 59Hz for the JBL Flip 5. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 99dB at full volume, against 92dB for the JBL Flip 5. It is rated for 20 hours of battery against 12 for the JBL Flip 5. The tradeoff: Shouty upper mids.
The JBL Flip 5 is the lighter choice. Compact and light (1.1 lb) with a carry lanyard. At 1.2 lbs (540 g) it weighs much less than the JBL Charge 5 at 2.1 lbs (960 g). The catch: Boosted upper bass.
