The JBL Authentics 300 is the better-sounding, deeper-bass option. A retro styled smart speaker with both Alexa and Google Assistant, a leather handle and battery power. It is rated for 100 hours of battery against 8 for the JBL Authentics 300. It is rated IPX5, while the JBL Authentics 300 has no water resistance. It keeps a wired aux input, which the JBL Authentics 300 lacks. The catch: Out of the box, the midrange and treble are uneven enough to sound alternately honky and dull, and the bass does not extend as deeply as better party speakers.
Buy the JBL Authentics 300. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $99.96 saving on the ION Pathfinder 280 is not enough to make up the difference.
