JBL 4329P vs JBL 308P MKII

Last updated: October 1, 2026

Short answer: the JBL 4329P if you need real bass, the 308P MKII if you need a flat midrange on a budget. The 4329P is genuinely full-range for a bookshelf, with anechoic response to 30Hz (measured F3 31Hz) and low-20s reach in-room, but no HDMI input. The 308P MKII’s spinorama is essentially flat from 45Hz to above 15kHz with almost no directivity error, marred only by a resonance around 18kHz and a slight dip around 1.4kHz.

JBL 4329P vs JBL 308P MKII

What the JBL 4329P offers: Genuinely full-range performance for a bookshelf-style speaker - anechoic response extends to 30Hz (measured F3 31Hz), reaching into the low 20s Hz range in-room depending on placement. Watch for: No HDMI input, a real drawback if you want to run these directly off a TV’s ARC.

Buy the JBL 308P MKII. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the JBL 4329P is discontinued, so it is only available used.

JBL 4329P ranking card

Pros: Measured -3dB extension of 32.2Hz provides deeper native bass than the smaller 4305P. Integrated amplification and streaming make it convenient for a full-range living-room system, and its larger format is useful when scale matters. Measured bass extension of 31Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 102.2dB.

Cons: The measured 4.5dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz includes a notable midrange dip, so it is not as neutral as its size and price might suggest. Its 6.72 ideal-subwoofer score trails the 4305P. There is no HDMI connection for the simplest TV hookup. Discontinued.

Pros: A 1.8dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz and 7.69 ideal-subwoofer score support unusually good tonal balance for an accessible studio monitor. Measured -3dB extension of 42.5Hz supplies useful musical bass, and the waveguide helps maintain consistent horizontal coverage. Measured bass extension of 42.5Hz (-3dB).

Cons: Amplifier hiss may be noticeable in quiet, close-range use. Bass distortion and output limits matter when playing loudly, despite the 8-inch woofer. Keep the tweeter near ear height; vertical crossover behavior is less forgiving than the best coaxial designs. A resonance around 18kHz and a slight dip around 1.4kHz.
