The GR-Research X-LS Encore is the deeper-bass choice. Two-way bookshelf speakers with a Peerless woofer, also sold as a kit so builders can save money by assembling them. Its bass reaches about 64Hz before falling 3dB, against 82Hz for the AsciLab F6Bs. The catch: A slight depression in the upper bass and some peaking in the lower bass shows up on-axis, along with directivity error in the crossover region.
The AsciLab F6Bs is the better-sounding pick. A slim, sealed bookshelf speaker that mounts flat on a wall bracket, with accurate sound and wide, even dispersion for a great price. The tradeoff: AsciLab’s own site shows the F6Bs sold out, though it remains in stock through resellers like Audiophonics and Tested Audio.
Buy the AsciLab F6Bs. It is rated higher for sound quality than the GR-Research X-LS Encore.
