The measurement record is one-sided. The Genelec has been independently Klippel-tested by Audio Science Review, which found a tight 1.9dB response span from 300Hz to 5kHz, smooth listening-window behavior, and a predicted preference score of 5.35 standalone (7.60 with an ideal subwoofer). It does carry a measurable dip around 2-3kHz and its vertical placement is less forgiving than its horizontal coverage suggests. The Focal’s specs are manufacturer-stated only (45Hz to 22kHz at plus-or-minus 3dB), without independent third-party measurements on file, so its real-world accuracy is harder to verify against the Genelec’s documented numbers.
Inputs and EQ favor the Focal for a simple setup. It accepts XLR, TRS, and RCA, versus the Genelec’s XLR-only connection, and both include rear-panel EQ tuning: basic room-adjustment shelving on the Focal, and separate bass tilt, treble tilt, and room-response controls on the Genelec. The Genelec also outputs more power (100W total against the Focal’s 60W per speaker) and is rated to 110dB max SPL, a spec the Focal doesn’t publish.
Buy the Genelec 8030C if you want a monitor with a documented, independently verified measurement record and don’t mind being XLR-only.
Buy the Focal Alpha 50 EVO if you need RCA or TRS connectivity on a tight budget and can live without third-party verification of its frequency response.
