Edifier S1000W vs Edifier S1000MKII

Last updated: October 1, 2026

Short answer: the Edifier S1000MKII. Both are rated 3.3/5 for sound quality (#57 and #56 of 68 powered bookshelf speakers), and the Edifier S1000MKII costs $499.99 against $599.99 for the Edifier S1000W, so with nothing between them on sound quality, price settles it.

Edifier S1000W vs Edifier S1000MKII

These two speakers are nearly identical hardware with one added feature. Both share the same cabinet, the same 5.5-inch woofer, the same 60W RMS per-channel output, and the same digital optical, coaxial, and RCA inputs. The only functional difference is that the S1000W adds Wi-Fi network playback on top of Bluetooth, letting it act as a standalone streaming source, while the S1000MKII sticks to Bluetooth and wired inputs only.

That Wi-Fi feature is convenience, not better sound. Our notes are explicit that high-resolution input support, which both speakers offer up to 192kHz/24-bit, does not itself improve acoustic accuracy, and that holds for the S1000W’s Wi-Fi streaming too. Neither model has independent third-party measurements; the available reviews are limited to informal YouTube sound comparisons rather than lab data.

Both share the same real limitation as an all-in-one system. Our notes point out that the integrated amplifier and speaker format offers less component flexibility than building a separate speakers-and-amplifier setup, a tradeoff that applies equally to whichever one you buy.

Buy the S1000MKII unless you specifically need Wi-Fi network streaming. It has the same drivers, the same power, and the same wired connectivity for $100 less.

Buy the S1000W only if standalone Wi-Fi streaming without a phone or Bluetooth source connected is a feature you’ll actually use.

Edifier S1000W ranking card

Pros: Network playback and multiple digital and analog connections make it a convenient all-in-one music system. Support for high-resolution input is useful for compatibility with different sources.

Cons: High-resolution input support does not itself improve acoustic accuracy. The all-in-one format offers less component flexibility than separate speakers and amplification. No independent measurements exist; reviews are limited to informal listening comparisons.

Edifier S1000MKII: $499.99 per pair Amazon eBay

Edifier S1000MKII ranking card

Pros: A self-powered stereo pair with optical, coaxial and analog inputs, plus high-resolution digital support, makes source switching unusually simple. Consumer Reports rates its sound accurate and detailed, so it is a strong one-box alternative to separate amplifier-and-speaker systems for nearfield or small-room listening.

Cons: High-resolution input support is not a guarantee of perfect tuning, and the fixed internal amplification prevents the gradual upgrades possible with separates. These are mains-powered speakers rather than portable wireless speakers, and their size and left/right cabling need a planned desktop or stand setup. No independent measurements exist; reviews are limited to informal listening comparisons.
