Short answer: the Edifier MR5. Both are rated 3.3/5 for sound quality (#78 and #82 of 108 powered bookshelf speakers), and the Edifier MR5 costs $349.99 against $499.99 for the Edifier S1000MKII, and with sound quality even, the cheaper one is the better buy.
The MR5 is the studio-style three-way. Each speaker has a 5-inch woofer, a 3.75-inch midrange and a silk tweeter, reaching 51Hz before falling 3dB in Erin’s measurements, with balanced XLR and TRS inputs, LDAC, an app EQ and a headphone output. Its upper mids and treble are uneven, and it compresses at higher levels.
The S1000MKII is the larger living-room pair. Its 5.5-inch woofers run on 60W per speaker, it has optical, coaxial and analog inputs and aptX HD, and Consumer Reports found it accurate and detailed. It weighs 37 lbs (16.8 kg) as a pair and has no balanced inputs.
Buy the Edifier MR5. Both are rated the same for sound quality, and it costs $150 less than the Edifier S1000MKII.
