The Dynaudio Special Forty is the deeper-bass pick. Premium bookshelf speakers with strong output, wide dispersion and fairly deep bass from a compact rear ported cabinet. Its bass reaches about 54Hz before falling 3dB, against 78Hz for the Perlisten S4b. The tradeoff: A glaring, sometimes sibilant quality around 3-4kHz was the most noticeable issue in listening, the one thing the reviewer would want notched out with EQ.
The Perlisten S4b is the more accurate choice. A compact sealed bookshelf speaker with reference grade accuracy, exceptionally smooth dispersion, and very low distortion at high volume. Its measured preference score, a predictor of how neutral it sounds, is 5.35 against 4.73 for the Dynaudio Special Forty. The tradeoff: Erin measured only 84.5dB sensitivity and an impedance minimum just under 4 ohms, a difficult efficiency/load combination that deserves substantial clean amplification.
Buy the Perlisten S4b. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $4,400 you would save on the Dynaudio Special Forty does not close the gap.
