The L/R X is a full living-room hub with wide dispersion. Each speaker has a 28mm tweeter, two 5-inch woofers and two side-firing passive radiators on 400W, reaching 43Hz before falling 3dB in Erin’s tests. It has HDMI eARC, phono, optical, USB-C, Wi-Fi streaming and a subwoofer output, plus room-placement DSP. A deliberate DSP notch causes a mild dip in the upper mids, and vertical dispersion is narrow.
The Sevens is a horn-loaded active pair with deep bass for less. Its 6.5-inch woofers reach 49Hz before falling 3dB and deliver a controlled thump near 40Hz in-room. It has HDMI, phono, USB, optical and aptX HD Bluetooth, with app EQ and a subwoofer output. Erin found a recessed 2 to 4kHz region and emphasized upper treble, and its horizontal coverage is fairly narrow.
Buy the Cambridge Audio L/R X if sound quality is the priority over the price, or the Klipsch The Sevens if the price is the priority over sound quality.
