Short answer: the Skullcandy Terrain, if you are buying new. The Bose Soundlink Mini 2 ranks higher than it (#71 vs #155 of 164 medium speakers, 3.4/5 vs 2.1/5) but is discontinued, so only consider it used; the Skullcandy Terrain is still sold new at $49.49.
The Bose Soundlink Mini 2 is the better-sounding pick. Compact aluminum build feels sturdy and dense. ~10 hour battery life; can pair to two devices at once and remembers up to 8. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Skullcandy Terrain lacks. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Skullcandy Terrain. The catch: Boosted upper bass like most Bose speakers.
The Skullcandy Terrain is the longer-running, lighter choice. IPX7 rated with a nylon wrist wrap for carrying. It is rated for 14 hours of battery against 10 for the Bose Soundlink Mini 2. At 1 lbs (458 g) it weighs noticeably less than the Bose Soundlink Mini 2 at 1.5 lbs (680 g). It is rated IPX7, while the Bose Soundlink Mini 2 has no water resistance. The tradeoff: No bass, very rolled off treble.
Buy the Skullcandy Terrain new; the Bose Soundlink Mini 2 is no longer sold new, so it only makes sense as a used find.
