The Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen is the better-sounding, lighter pick. A very portable 1.3 lbs (586 g), IP67-rated speaker with a clear, well-balanced midrange that keeps voices and instruments intelligible. At 1.3 lbs (586 g) it weighs much less than the Sony SRS-XE300 at 2.9 lbs (1.3 kg). The catch: One Flex remains mono and cannot deliver genuine low-bass rumble; RTINGS also found the elevated treble can turn hi-hats and other high-frequency detail piercing.
The Sony SRS-XE300 is the longer-running pick. Orientation-aware playback switches to stereo when laid flat. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 12 for the Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen. It supports LDAC Bluetooth, which the Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen lacks. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen. The tradeoff: Muffled sounding, not very deep bass.
Buy the Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the Sony SRS-XE300 is discontinued.

The claimed battery life is only 12 hours, and some owners report accelerated standby drain after firmware updates.
