The Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen is the better-sounding, lighter option. A very portable 1.3 lbs (586 g), IP67-rated speaker with a clear, well-balanced midrange that keeps voices and instruments intelligible. At 1.3 lbs (586 g) it weighs much less than the JBL Charge 2 at 2.4 lbs (1.1 kg). It is rated IP67 against IPX5 for the JBL Charge 2. It supports aptX Adaptive Bluetooth, which the JBL Charge 2 lacks. The catch: One Flex remains mono and cannot deliver genuine low-bass rumble; RTINGS also found the elevated treble can turn hi-hats and other high-frequency detail piercing.
What the JBL Charge 2 does well: Doubles as a 6000mAh power bank. ~10-12 hour battery life. It keeps a wired aux input, which the Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen lacks. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen. The tradeoff: Bass compression at higher volumes.
Buy the Bose Soundlink Flex 2nd gen. It is rated higher for sound quality and still sold new, while the JBL Charge 2 is discontinued.
