Short answer: the Bogasing G4. It ranks #27 of 172 medium speakers by sound quality (rated 4.0/5) at $38.29 and is still sold new; the Sonos Roam ranks #93 (rated 3.1/5) and is discontinued, so it is only an option used. The Sonos Roam’s replacement, the Sonos Roam 2, is rated 3.2/5 at $179.
The Bogasing G4 is the better-sounding, deeper-bass pick. A 1.8 lbs (0.83 kg) travel-friendly speaker with 50W output, IPX7 protection, USB-C charging, aux and microSD playback, LC3 Bluetooth and TWS pairing. Its bass reaches about 56Hz before falling 10dB, against 63Hz for the Sonos Roam. Alan Ross Reviews measured it at 100dB at full volume, against 95dB for the Sonos Roam. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 10 for the Sonos Roam. The tradeoff: The upper treble is boosted and uneven, while the mids sit slightly behind the bass and highs, so it is not a neutral choice for vocal-focused music.
The Sonos Roam is the lighter pick. A compact Wi-Fi and Bluetooth portable with very neutral sound, Qi wireless charging and Alexa or Sonos Voice Control. At 0.9 lbs (429 g) it weighs much less than the Bogasing G4 at 1.8 lbs (830 g). It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Bogasing G4 lacks. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Bogasing G4 lacks. The tradeoff: Bass extension isn’t very good.
Buy the Bogasing G4. It is rated higher for sound quality; the Sonos Roam is no longer sold new.
