Short answer: the Beats Pill 2024. It ranks #76 of 172 medium speakers by sound quality, rated 3.3/5, at $129.95; the Ultimate Ears Boom 3 ranks #111, rated 2.9/5, and costs $134.99, which makes this an easy call rather than a real tradeoff.
The Beats Pill 2024 is the better-sounding, deeper-bass pick. A 1.5 lbs (680 g) IP67 portable speaker with 24-hour battery life that doubles as a USB-C power bank. Its bass reaches about 56Hz before falling 10dB, against 91Hz for the Ultimate Ears Boom 3. It is rated for 24 hours of battery against 15 for the Ultimate Ears Boom 3. It supports AAC Bluetooth, which the Ultimate Ears Boom 3 lacks. The catch: Boosted upper bass, somewhat thuddy.
Why pick the Ultimate Ears Boom 3: A rugged 1.3 lbs (608 g) IP67 speaker that floats, with a 15-hour battery and a fabric shell. It has an adjustable EQ, which the Beats Pill 2024 lacks. It plays in stereo from a single unit, unlike the Beats Pill 2024. Watch for: Not stereo, barely any bass, recessed treble.
Buy the Beats Pill 2024. It is rated higher for sound quality than the Ultimate Ears Boom 3 and costs less, so it is the default pick unless a specific strength of the other one matters more to you.
