Short answer: the Audio First Cadentia 3. It ranks #7 of 214 bookshelf speakers by sound quality, rated 4.7/5, at $7,199. The Arendal Sound 1528 Bookshelf 8 ranks #35, rated 4.4/5, at $6,499, $700 cheaper, a saving that is not big enough to make up the sound-quality gap.
Why pick the Audio First Cadentia 3: Near-textbook measurements: excellent on-axis linearity, listening window, and directivity, with only minor deviations. Watch for: A mild scoop through the upper midrange/lower treble slightly softens the attack of snares, hand claps, and sibilants: fixable with a single-band EQ (2.5kHz, +1dB, Q~1).
The Arendal Sound 1528 Bookshelf 8 is the deeper-bass choice. A 3-way standmount from Arendal’s flagship 1528 series, with the same 28mm waveguide tweeter and 5” midrange as the measured Arendal 1528 Monitor 8 (a 5.59 Spinorama preference score) and a single 8” woofer. Its bass reaches about 19Hz before falling 10dB, against 26Hz for the Audio First Cadentia 3. The tradeoff: No independent measurements yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared directly with measured speakers; the rating is estimated from the measured Arendal 1528 Monitor 8.
Buy the Audio First Cadentia 3. It is rated higher for sound quality, and the $700 you would save on the Arendal Sound 1528 Bookshelf 8 does not close the gap.
About the ratings: the Arendal Sound 1528 Bookshelf 8’s rating is estimated from measured siblings and predecessors rather than its own measurements, with a likely range of 4.1 to 4.6, so this verdict could change once it is measured.

The Two Speakers In Full
Audio First Cadentia 3: $7199 per pair Audio First Designs eBay
Pros: Near-textbook measurements: excellent on-axis linearity, listening window, and directivity, with only minor deviations. Extremely low distortion and compression, holding steady even at 102dB with barely any loss. Very wide, consistent horizontal dispersion (~70 degrees) gives a big, enveloping soundstage with strong image specificity outside the speaker boundaries. Strong bass extension for a bookshelf (F3 43Hz, F10 26Hz) with a punchy, guttural mid-bass. Measured bass extension of 43Hz (-3dB), with a measured sensitivity of 86.4dB.
Cons: A mild scoop through the upper midrange/lower treble slightly softens the attack of snares, hand claps, and sibilants: fixable with a single-band EQ (2.5kHz, +1dB, Q~1). High-frequency dispersion narrows quickly above about 4kHz, so off-axis listeners lose some air and detail. Very high asking price for a bookshelf-class speaker, and the complete (finished) version has a long lead time; the loaner kit version ships as an unfinished cabinet you assemble and finish yourself.

Arendal Sound 1528 Bookshelf 8: $6,499 per pair Estimated Arendal Sound eBay
Same family: the Arendal 1528 Monitor 8 (larger bookshelf, ranked higher, rated 4.4/5), the Arendal Sound 1528 Tower 8 (floorstanding, estimated 4.5/5) and the Arendal Sound 1528 Center 8 (center, estimated 4.1/5).
Pros: A 3-way standmount from Arendal’s flagship 1528 series, with the same 28mm waveguide tweeter and 5” midrange as the measured Arendal 1528 Monitor 8 (a 5.59 Spinorama preference score) and a single 8” woofer. Arendal specifies ±2dB from 42Hz to 20kHz and 28Hz at -6dB, unusually deep for a standmount.
Cons: No independent measurements yet, so its tonal balance and directivity can’t be compared directly with measured speakers; the rating is estimated from the measured Arendal 1528 Monitor 8. Sensitivity is a low 84dB into 4 ohms, so it needs a powerful amplifier, and it weighs 30kg.
