The Best Inexpensive Medium Size Speaker
The best inexpensive medium size battery powered portable Bluetooth speaker is the $50 Earfun Uboom L (after clipped coupon and coupon UBOOMLWC in the payment options)
- Positives: Tuned by Oluv and he knocked it out of the park. The audiophile choice. Extremely neutral, possibly the best of any modern Bluetooth speaker slightly behind the Vifa Helsinki. This is the only speaker that sounds correct at every volume level. Other speakers will need a different EQ at each volume level. For maximum volume without distortion use max volume - 1 step for most songs. Oluv left another higher volume for sounds that are quiet. Amazing sounding at low levels as it boosts bass and treble at low levels to account for the equal-loudness contour.
- Negatives: Latency is high (400ms) without turning on low latency mode (66ms) which doesn’t work when two speakers are TWS paired. Low latency mode can be turned on by pressing the Bluetooth button twice. If latency in TWS paired mode is a very important feature, like if you watch a lot of video, you may want to choose another speaker. The power button can sometimes get accidentally pressed when put in a bag. The aux input has quite a bit of latency and isn’t recommended for video use.
- Setup: Try setting up the Earfun App (Android or iOS) to see if that works. If not, you’ll need to flash firmware 1.2.7 to work with the app and set with Oluv’s EQ in the Earfun app which sounds the best. The instructions say that you need a USB3 cable, but most USB2 cables work just fine, try the one included with your phone. Check the current firmware version by turning it on, then pressing the power and Bluetooth buttons at the same time. To flash, turn the speaker off then hold down the Bluetooth button while plugging in the cable. To flash on a mac, see these instructions. In TWS mode, long press the outdoor button for 2 seconds to change TWS to Party mode and back.

For cheaper there’s the $36 Miatone Boompro
- Positives: Exactly the same as the Wisetiger P3 below. By far the best sounding speaker under $50. Actually very well balanced. Very balanced even at full volume. Short press the power button to change the lighting mode.
- Negatives: Slightly less bass extension than higher ranked speakers.

The Best Inexpensive Large Size Speaker
The best inexpensive large size battery powered portable Bluetooth speaker is the $48 Zealot S97 (After coupon YZZL10)
- Positives: There is nothing else for $48 with that deep of bass and a reasonable tuning
- Negatives: Doesn’t get very loud compared to other speakers in this class. Short battery life. Pretty heavy. Many say the S67 has deeper bass, but also gets more distorted

The Best Inexpensive Boombox Size Speaker
The best inexpensive boombox size battery powered speaker for deep bass with excellent sound quality, that can get loud for a party but can still be carried by hand is the $110 Earfun Uboom X (after clipped coupon and code UBOOMXDR in the payment options). Make sure you install the app (Android or iOS, update the firmware and select an Oluv EQ like Indoor.
- Positives: Tuned by Oluv and he knocked it out of the park again. Deeper bass than the Stormbox Blast. Extremely neutral, possibly the best of any modern Bluetooth speaker slightly behind the Vifa Helsinki. The Earfun app (Android or iOS) has sound profiles created by Oluv for Studio, Indoor, Indoor+, Outdoor, Outdoor+, BOOM xxX, and Ground 0 which are all fantastic. This is the only speaker that sounds correct at every single volume level due to Oluv’s individual EQ settings at each volume level. Other speakers will need a different EQ at each volume level. Amazing sounding at low levels as it boosts bass and treble at low levels to account for the equal-loudness contour. Just considering the midrange and treble, this speaker is better sounding than the Earfun Uboom L.
- Negatives: The out of the box 0.33 firmware and EQ sounds horrible, please update it using the Earfun app (Android or iOS) and select an Oluv EQ. Some people have mentioned sound interruption issues when using 2 in TWS, I don’t have this issue with my Pixel 7 Pro.

If the Uboom X is out of stock, I’d recommend the $160 Tribit Stormbox Blast
- Positives: Amazing speaker given its size, competes well with some speakers in the Party size class, bass almost as deep as a Partybox 100. Quite neutral in the default and xbass modes, but try Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ for a slightly more neutral sound. Oluv has mentioned v3.5 now uses his EQ as the defaults and sounds extremely good. 2 different light modes or can be turned off.
- Negatives: Lacks a bit of detail compared to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, dip at 5.5khz. Without the above EQ this speaker would rank around #4 in the rankings. The curved underside of the handle makes it a little harder to grip and can be uncomfortable to carry long distances.
