JBL Flip 7 vs Skullcandy Terrain/Terrain XT/Terrain XL

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Flip 7 for better sound quality, the Skullcandy Terrain/Terrain XT/Terrain XL for the lower price. The JBL Flip 7 ranks #14 of 136 medium speakers at $129.95. The Skullcandy Terrain/Terrain XT/Terrain XL ranks #129 at $48.84, $81.11 cheaper.

What the JBL Flip 7 gets right: A very neutral speaker, very small, almost pocket size. Just slightly more treble than the Flip 6 which was already a great speaker. The tradeoff: A little bit of a bump at 4khz, not quite as neutral as the FLip 6. I believe this one is slightly worse than the Flip 6.

The case for the Skullcandy Terrain/Terrain XT/Terrain XL: IPX7 rated with a carry strap. Reasonable battery life across the lineup (14-18 hours depending on model). The catch: No bass, very rolled off treble. Distortion in the treble. Just doesn’t sound good.

Buy the JBL Flip 7 if sound quality matters more than the price. Buy the Skullcandy Terrain/Terrain XT/Terrain XL if the price matters more than sound quality.

If sound quality matters at all to you, skip the Skullcandy Terrain/Terrain XT/Terrain XL. It ranks near the bottom of the 136 medium speakers, so look higher up the list instead.
