Short answer: the Soundcore Motion 300 ranks #2 of 135 medium speakers by sound quality at $79.99; the Tribit Maxsound Plus V1/V2/Thunderbox Plus ranks #21 at $79.99. Close enough in price that the sound-quality gap is the deciding factor.
The case for the Soundcore Motion 300: pretty deep bass for its small size, pocket-sized, usable in stereo facing you or lying flat with orientation-specific custom EQ, and Oluv’s Uboom L EQ settings can clean up its sound further. The catch: without that EQ (or maxing the top two treble bands) it’s very rolled off up top and would rank far lower, BassUp mode underperforms Signature mode, and it’s not quite as detailed as higher-ranked speakers.
What the Tribit Maxsound Plus V1/V2/Thunderbox Plus gets right: Xbass mode gets you its flattest frequency response, and the V1, V2 and Thunderbox Plus variants all sound identical. Set against that: slightly less deep bass than the best in its category.
Buy the Soundcore Motion 300. It ranks higher for sound quality than the Tribit Maxsound Plus V1/V2/Thunderbox Plus at the same price, so there is no real case for the other one.
If battery life is a priority, the Tribit Maxsound Plus V1/V2/Thunderbox Plus is rated for 20 hours versus 13 hours for the Soundcore Motion 300.

Soundcore Motion 300: $79.99 Amazon
Pros: Pretty deep bass for the small size. Pocket size in a big pocket. Can be used in stereo facing you, or omnidirectional lying down. Ability to have a custom EQ for each orientation, standing, lying flat, hanging. Try the Uboom L EQs from Oluv for a more neutral sound.
Cons: Without the above EQ or turning the top 2 treble EQ bars to max, this speaker is very rolled off in the treble and will rank around #50 in the rankings. Bassup mode is worse than Signature. Not quite as detailed or neutral as higher ranked speakers. Slight bass distortion when turned up.
