JBL Charge 6 vs Tribit Maxsound Plus V1/V2/Thunderbox Plus

Last updated: September 1, 2026

Short answer: the JBL Charge 6 on measured sound quality, the Tribit Maxsound Plus/Thunderbox Plus on price. The JBL Charge 6 ranks #11 of 140 medium speakers at $199.95. The Tribit Maxsound Plus/Thunderbox Plus ranks #21 at $79.99, $119.96 cheaper.

The case for the JBL Charge 6: seems more neutral than the Charge 5, with a flatter response through the mids and treble than that rolled-off predecessor. The catch: still some boosted bass by default, recessed mids, brightness above 2kHz, and an overall V-shaped response.

What the Tribit Maxsound Plus V1/V2/Thunderbox Plus gets right: Xbass mode gets you its flattest frequency response, and the V1, V2 and Thunderbox Plus variants all sound identical. Set against that: slightly less deep bass than the best in its category.

Buy the JBL Charge 6 if sound quality matters more than the price. Buy the Tribit Maxsound Plus/Thunderbox Plus if the price matters more than sound quality.

Pros: Seems more neutral than the Charge 5. Flatter frequency response through the mids and treble as the Charge 5 was quite rolled off up high. Use this EQ from Joy/Oluv and turn down the lowest bass slider for the best sound quality. Oluv has even more paid EQs specifically for the GG and TL models indoors and outdoors here

Cons: Still some boosted bass by default. Mids are recessed. Bright above 2khz. Quite a V shaped frequency response.

Pros: Use Xbass mode for flattest frequency response. Identical driver, tuning, and sound to the Thunderbox Plus and the newer Maxsound Plus V2.

Cons: Slightly less deep bass than the best in category. No true wireless stereo pairing between two units, unlike the V2.
