Bose Soundlink Flex vs JBL Charge 4

Last updated: August 20, 2026

Short answer: the Bose Soundlink Flex. It ranks #34 of 136 medium speakers by sound quality at $89; the JBL Charge 4 ranks #50 and costs $119.95, so there is not much of a tradeoff to weigh.

The case for the Bose Soundlink Flex: IP67 rated; rugged enough to survive drops from several feet and floats. The catch: Not stereo. Warm sounding with overly boosted bass which drowns out midrange detail.

On the JBL Charge 4 side: Doubles as a power bank for charging phones/tablets. Watch for: Not stereo. 1 Oval driver.

One note: the JBL Charge 4 is discontinued, but it still ranks #50 of 136 medium speakers by sound quality, ahead of most of what is still sold new, so it is worth considering used.

Buy the Bose Soundlink Flex. It ranks higher for sound quality than the JBL Charge 4 and costs less, so there is no real case for the other one.

If battery life is a priority, the JBL Charge 4 is rated for 20 hours versus 12 hours for the Bose Soundlink Flex.
