This page ranks 67 boombox size Bluetooth speakers. The boombox class offers deep bass, compact size, and reasonable weight, a truly portable party speaker that fits in a big backpack. The best ones can shake walls and floors at medium volume, with bass extension similar to an 8” woofer tower speaker. Stepping up to the Party size only gets you more volume and deeper bass. IPX7 water resistant unless otherwise noted. All speakers in this class need AC to charge unless noted.
To the average listener, speakers in the top 50% of this category will likely sound great. For the critical listener, aim for the top 20%. Don’t hesitate to pick any of those if you have budget, feature, or aesthetic priorities, there are a lot of good speakers here.

#1 Earfun Uboom X [Myearfun] [Amazon]: $128 with code UBOOMXDR
- Positives: Tuned by Oluv and he knocked it out of the park again. Deeper bass than the Stormbox Blast. Extremely neutral, possibly the best of any modern Bluetooth speaker slightly behind the Vifa Helsinki. This is the only speaker that sounds correct at every single volume level due to Oluv’s individual EQ settings at each volume level. Other speakers will need a different EQ at each volume level. Amazing sounding at low levels as it boosts bass and treble at low levels to account for the equal-loudness contour. Just considering the midrange and treble, this speaker is better sounding than the Earfun Uboom L.
- Negatives: The out of the box 0.33 firmware and EQ sounds horrible. Some people have mentioned sound interruption issues when using 2 in TWS, I don’t have this issue with my Pixel 7 Pro, try disabling AAC in that case
- Setup: Please update it using the Earfun app (Android or iOS) and select an Oluv EQ. The Earfun app has sound profiles created by Oluv for Studio, Indoor, Indoor+, Outdoor, Outdoor+, BOOM xxX, and Ground 0 which are all fantastic. Oluv has a newer firmware pack that brings it up a few more notches of neutral

#2 Tribit Stormbox Blast [Amazon]: $170
- Positives: Amazing speaker given its size, competes well with some speakers in the Party size class, bass almost as deep as a Partybox 100. Quite neutral in the default and xbass modes, but try Oluv’s EQ or Alan Ross’s EQ for a slightly more neutral sound. Oluv has mentioned v3.5 now uses his EQ as the defaults and sounds extremely good. 2 different light modes or can be turned off.
- Negatives: Lacks a bit of detail compared to the top ranked speakers in other size categories, dip at 5.5khz. Without the above EQ this speaker would rank around #4 in the rankings. The curved underside of the handle makes it a little harder to grip and can be uncomfortable to carry long distances.

#3 Harman Kardon Go + Play 3 [Amazon] [Ebay Refurbished]: $385
- Positives: Warm sound with boosted bass. Deepest bass out of any speaker in this size. Sound is more natural than the Go + Play2.
- Negatives: Just a little over half as loud as the higher rated boomboxes. Only 8 hours of battery at medium volume. No water rating.
- Setup: Use the hidden EQ modes to adjust the bass up when outside and down when inside. To adjust bass, quickly press the bluetooth and volume down buttons together, the number of light flashes tell you what mode you’re in. To adjust treble, quickly press the volume up and phone buttons at the same time, the number of yellow flashes on the light tell you what mode you are in.

#9 Vifa Copenhagen 2.0 [Amazon]: $800
- Negatives: 350hz and 2-3khz peak. The Vifa Helsinki is cheaper and generally has a more neutral frequency response, I’d highly recommend getting one of those instead if you specifically want a Vifa. Not sure I can recommend this one generally these days, the Uboom L has 95% of the sound quality with more features and a way cheaper price. No water rating.

#43 Soundcore Motion Boom+ [Amazon]: $140 after $40 coupon
- Positives: The lightest speaker in the group.
- Negatives: Default presets are all warm sounding with rolled off treble. Will need a custom EQ to get closer to neutral. A shrill sounding 6khz peak comes out when volume is above about 60%. Not much deeper bass than a Motion Boom and a lot less deep bass than other speakers in the class.

#44 ZZA K8 [Amazon]: $40 after clipped coupon
- Positives: Completely insane value for the money. Comes with 2 metal body wireless microphones that are USB-C chargeable. Comes with Chinese labeled infrared remote control. Has voice delete function that works quite well. Adjustable microphone reverb. Pretty good build quality. The default EQ is the most balanced, the other two sound muffled.
- Negatives: Very V curve frequency response, can be harsh in the treble range. Treble is boosted a good +10dB. Midbass is recessed. Slight distortion issue at all volume levels due to the bass high pass filter being set too low

#50 Turtlebox Grande [Amazon]: $730
- Negatives: They pretty much lie about all their specs and sound just okay in all youtube sound samples. Only 100w will never hit 126db at a reasonable measuring distance. Putting your db meter right against the speaker doesn’t count, 1 meter distance is the standard. Barely any bass for a 10” woofer. Overpriced and not worth it.

Putting your db meter right against the speaker doesn’t count, 1 meter distance is the standard. Barely any bass. Rattles at high volume. Uses external AC power brick to charge.
